Postdoctoral position in mechatronics for exoskeletons: at Istituto Italiano diTecnologia, Italy
The Department of Advanced Robotics at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, an English-language research Institute, is seeking to appoint an international well motivated full-time junior/senior post-doc with a key research role in the area of mechatronics.
The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to pursue research within the XoSoft (Soft modular biomimetic exoskeleton to assist people with mobility impairments) European project in partnership with a consortium encompassing nine leading universities, research institutes and companies in Europe (http://www.xosoft.eu/). The XoSoft project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation under Grant Agreement No 688175. XoSoft as a project focuses on the development of a soft biometic exoskeleton to assist people with mobility impairments. For people with walking impairments, assistive devices play a pivotal role in their lives and independence. The XoSoft soft exoskeleton focuses on the use of non-traditional sensing and actuation systems based on smart materials and soft structures. The main application area for XoSoft will be in the health care sector, in particular for elderly and disabled people. We are looking for a highly motivated, outstanding scientist with a PhD in Robotics, Engineering, or other fields related with mechatronics, and an excellent, well established publication record in the area of robotics. The work will mainly focus on the development of support technologies for sensors and actuators, and the development of energetically efficient systems. Experience in the area of soft robotics is desirable. Proficiency in mechatronics, electronics and control with a proven portfolio of robotic systems, excellent hands-on practical skills and strong competences in actuators, sensors and embedded systems are essential. Experience in the area of exoskeleton, assistive or prosthesis robotics will be a relevant plus. Desired qualifications:
International applications are encouraged. The successful candidate will be offered a contract for a period of 24 months with a highly competitive salary which will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Expected start date could be October 2016 or as soon as possible. To apply, please send electronically a detailed CV with list of publications, University transcripts, your best first-author paper, a cover letter outlining motivation and statement of research interests/plan and 2 references letters to [email protected] by August 31th, 2016 stating “XoSoft Post-Doc” in the subject of the e-mail. Only complete applications will be evaluated.
